The same creators of My Wine Story gave birth to “Malbec Top Design”, a wine label contest aimed at spreading the image of the Argentina’s signature varietal around the world. By means of this initiative, WineSur joined Malbec Day which took place last 17th April all over the world. The aim of the contest was to see and assess the participating Malbec labels, awarding the best ones a prize according to four categories:
Classic: labels whose conceptual style follows the traditional parameters representing Malbec.
Modern: labels whose characteristics and elements express the present time of viticulture.
Innovation: labels with non-conventional style and shape, regarding both their design and materials.
Artistic: labels whose design has a connection with artistic styles, times or existing works of art.
More than 200 labels of Malbec, from 100 Argentinian wineries, were submitted to the contest.
A first-class jury
The jury of the Malbec Top Design contest, gathered by WineSur, consisted of a multidisciplinary team of professionals. The aim was to have different opinions about every participating label in order to develop a better final assessment.
The international judges were the following: Liz Thach, professor of Managment & Wine Business in Sonoma State University, Wine Business Institute; Debra Meiburg, Master of Wine and one of the most popular wine experts in Asia; and Paul Wagner, president of Balzac Communications & Marketing in the United States. Likewise, the national judges were: Fabricio Portelli, director of El Conocedor magazine; Andrés Rosberg, professional sommelier, president and co-founder of the Argentinian Sommelier Association; Mariano Braga, sommelier and Communications graduate; Eduardo Castro, industrial designer specialized in Graphic; and the team of Design and Communication Departments of Área del Vino.
The assessment methodology was as follows: each judge had to assess every participating label, scoring them from 1 to 10. There, they had the chance to make comments on any of the labels.
